Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!
Foot Care Plus has changed office hours in Lee's Summit.  The official office hours are as followed:

Fridays: 9am till 5pm

Walk-in during those office hours are welcomed.
However, if you need evening hours (example: 6pm) then call for an appointment.
Saturdays are appointments only.

We are in the works for accepting Medicaid MO sometimes in 2012 (don't hold your breath though).
If everything works out great, do expect to hear about this exciting news!

The winter months are here, but once it is over, we will be celebrating with everyone with a Spring Bash (sometimes in May 2012) to welcome our year old practice in Lee's Summit.

We got rave reviews from Foxwood Springs Senior Community (Raymore, MO) about us, so we are so please to continue providing podiatric service in a monthly basis.

We are very happy to be part of Lee's Summit community and hope to continue provide professional services to everyone.

We are also in the works of providing podiatric service to a senior community in the east (secret!!) that doesn't have a podiatrist for a while.

Happy New Year!

Joplin Trip

This past Tuesday (October 18, 2011), the trip to Joplin was great.  Besides our SUV decided to light up the low oil level, we arrived safely to Joplin.  We hit the Christian Church of Joplin to drop off the donations (clothes, shoes, money, etc).  After that, we joined with the rest of the bus for the tour where the tornadoes touched down.  We able to help out with the Distribution from AmeriCorp.   Look for the pictures we took at Joplin at the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce website.  Peace out.

Electronic Medical Record

We officially operated our podiatric medical office by a certified electronic medical record system.  What does this mean?  It means that we are following our U.S. government requirements in providing better communications between our patients and their doctors.  This knowledge will give some relief to our patients that their health is in our best interest.  With the modern day podiatric medical practice, paper charts are becoming more of ancient practices, and electronic charting is becoming the trend setter of the 21st century.

Medical Foot Hydrotherapy

Come by our office to try out the hydrotherapy bath for the aching foot.  What is hydrotherapy bath treatment?  The treatment use physical water properties, such as temperature and pressure, for therapeutic purposes, to stimulate blood circulation and treat the symptoms of certain diseases.  It help relax the muscles and reduce toxin in the body by stimulation from the warm pressurized water.  To get a better image, try to imagine a whirlpool / jet bath in some luxury homes.  Same thing, except it focus on the foot.  Since the hydrotherapy is provided at a medical office, each clients get a personalized foot bath.  Call us for more information at (816) 434-5906.

Patient Handout

IMPROVING YOUR OFFICE VISIT

Our goal is to provide you with good patient care and treatment and to make the most of your office visit today. Optimal results can only occur when you, the patient, become a partner in your healthcare by asking questions, ensuring your understanding of your care and treatment, and agreeing with treatment plans offered by Dr. Ton.

Before you are seen:

  • Think about what you want to tell doctor.
  • If this is a follow-up visit for the same medical condition, are you better? Worse? What works best? What doesn’t work?
  • What are your symptoms?
  • What makes your symptoms better or worse?
  • What questions do you have?
  • Do you need a prescription refilled?

During your visit:

  • Tell the doctor about:
    • What you have learned about your condition from other sources.
    • What you think the problem is.
    • What concerns you most.
    • Any tests or x-rays you have had and the results.
    • Any health conditions you have such as diabetes or circulation problems.
    • All drugs you are taking including prescription and over-the-counter medications, herbal products, nutritional supplements, and recreational drugs. (Make a list or put your drugs in a paper bag and bring to the office.)
    • All allergies you have.
  • Answer the doctor’s questions.
  • Ask the doctor questions. (There are no “stupid” questions, please ask about anything you do not understand or would like to know more about.) Such as:
    • Do I need to tell my other doctors about this visit and care?
    • Are there other options for treatment? What’s good and bad about each option?
    • How long will it take to get better or heal?
    • What medications do I need?
  • If you don’t understand the doctor’s instructions or explanations don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.
  • Tell the doctor if you can’t follow the treatment plan he/she suggests. For example, if the plan of treatment interferes with your work schedule or family obligations. Together you may be able to work out a plan that you will be able to follow.
  • If you are considering surgery, ask the doctor to explain the procedure, the benefits, the risks, the costs, and alternatives to surgery.

Heel Pain

Do you or someone you know has heel pain?  The most common heel pain diagnosis is plantar fasciitis.  It is the pain that commonly associates with pain with first step in the morning.  The pain usually starts at the inside heel then spreads out to the bottom of the foot.  Here are the steps to help you get some relief.  Remember, consult with us if you have any concerns before doing these simple exercises.  (1) Get a long elastic band and use it to stretch your foot before stepping down the bed every morning.  (2) Place your hands against a wall, bend your knee of the unaffected side, and lean on the knee to feel the stretch of your calf on the affected extremity.  (Do not stretch to cause pain, just enough to stretch that large muscle on your calf).  (3) Get iced plastic bottle of water and roll it under your affected foot.  Constant motion from heel to balls of the foot.  (4) Use a golf or tennis ball and perform a deep massage by rolling it under your foot.  (5) Get some good OTC orthotics.  Arch support is very important.  Ladies, this is a good excuse to wear some 2-3 inches heel.  The heel lift gives the muscle some room to relax, therefore helping the pain to decrease.  Call us at (816) 434-5906 if you got questions.  We are here to get you back on your feet.

Nail Problems?

Did you know that having pain in your nail is NOT normal?  A lot of times, the nails tell us about our health.  For an example, did you know that bleeding under the nails does happen after trauma?  Sometimes, the bone underneath could be fractured.  You need to have the traumatized nail to bleed out, if not the pressure underneath the nail will cause you to feel more pain.  Get immediate treatment for the nail!  Don't be surprise if you loose the nail itself after trauma.  Don't worry, it will grow out.
